When the first Playmobil fairytale castle, set 3019, was released in 1998 this was also the first release of a ‘full skirt’ to fit over the lower half of a klicky, in this case a white-haired queen.
Statistics
Since that time, many more ‘full skirts’ have been produced. As of 28 June 2025,
205 figures have appeared in hoop skirts, ignoring duplicates there have been
162 different skirts* on
183 different klickies in
174 sets (119 ‘standard’ sets, 25 Mystery Figure sets (34 figures in the 27 series to date), 22 Girls’/Pink/Fantasy Magazines, 6 ‘Quick’sets, 2 sets with 8-digit numbers).

What to call them?
Crinolines, fathingales, panniers, hoop skirts, full skirts, big skirts. The first three terms may refer to the undergarments and engineering used to support the actual skirt.
In German they are called Reifröcke (singular Reifrock). According to this source, the word comes from Reif meaning ‘hoop’ and Rock meaning ‘skirt’, so it literally means ‘hoop skirt’. The English word ‘frock’ may originate from the German ‘rock.’
Eight Types
There are eight types of Playmobil ‘full skirt’. The rear half is shown on the right hand side in the following pictures. The most recent types are ‘dwarf’ which was introduced in June 2023 and ‘Junior’ in 2024.
A. Standard, front panel (first seen in 1998), known as ‘skirt, hoop-type, curved layers’ on PlaymoDB: 53 examples. Hole for bow at the back. Usually printed on the front
B. Crenulated hem (first seen in 2005), known as ‘skirt, hoop-type, with scalloped hem’ on PlaymoDB: 10 examples. Usually printed on the front.
C. Child (first seen in 2005), known as ‘Skirt, hoop-type, front and back half (child-size)’ on PlaymoDB: 10 examples. 2 small bows at the front. Sometimes no printing.
D. Bell-shaped (first seen in 2010), known as ‘Skirt, bell-shape’ on PlaymoDB: 49 examples. Usually printed on the front.
E.Tucks and Bows (first seen September 2015), known as ‘Skirt, hoop-type, for narrow waist’ on PlaymoDB: 24 examples. Printed on front and back. 2 small bows at the front, 3 at the back.
F. ‘Narrow’ (first appeared September 2020) known as ‘Skirt, hoop-type, with belt and long overskirt’ on PlaymoDB. 12 examples. Hole in the front is for a small embellishment, like a tassel or star.
G. ‘Dwarf’ first appeared in June 2023 and has been used on a standard leg figure and two with dwarf legs to date. On dwarf legs, the skirt reaches the ankles.
H. ‘Junior’ fist appeared on JUNIOR figures in 2024, 2 to date. The skirt is a single piece and the figure slots into it;
